Batch and expiry tracking software with FEFO
Goods with a shelf life lose money in two ways: stock that expires on the shelf, and stock you cannot trace when something goes wrong. In Taajir, batch and expiry tracking comes with the Manufacturing add-on.
Batches with expiry dates
Each batch of stock carries its own number and expiry date, so you know what is in hand and when it runs out of time.
First expiry, first out
At sale, Taajir picks the batch that expires first (FEFO), so older stock leaves before newer stock.
Batch traceability
See where any batch came from and which customers received it.
Recall report
If a batch has a problem, the recall report lists the customers who got it.
Part of the Manufacturing add-on
Batches and expiry sit inside the Manufacturing module, Rs 2,000 a month, on either Taajir plan.
Batch and expiry tracking in Taajir is part of the Manufacturing add-on (Rs 2,000 a month, or Rs 11,000 a year with a yearly plan). It is not in the base Standard or Business plan on its own.
Why expiry dates need software
A food factory making biscuits, nimko or spices, or any business handling goods with a shelf life, has the same problem. Stock looks fine as a total. Inside that total, some cartons expire next month and some in six months. If the staff pick from the front of the godown, the newest stock often goes out first and the oldest expires at the back. Near-expiry stock then has to be sold at a discount or thrown away, and both come straight out of profit. When every batch carries its expiry date, you can see which stock is getting close and push it with a scheme while it still has value.
A register cannot keep up with this once you have more than a handful of batches. The glossary entry on batch and expiry tracking explains the basic idea. This page covers how it works in Taajir.
FEFO, with an example
FEFO means first expiry, first out. It is close to FIFO, but it goes by expiry date instead of the date the stock arrived. Say a snack factory has two batches of the same product in the godown:
| Batch | Cartons | Expiry |
|---|---|---|
| Batch A | 180 | 20 December |
| Batch B | 400 | 10 February |
A distributor orders 250 cartons. Taajir takes all 180 from Batch A and the remaining 70 from Batch B. Batch A is cleared before it expires, and Batch B is left with 330 cartons. If the counter had picked the 250 from Batch B, the front of the godown, Batch A could have sat until December. At a cost of Rs 2,400 a carton, 180 expired cartons would be a loss of 180 × Rs 2,400 = Rs 432,000.
Tracing a batch when something goes wrong
Now say a customer reports a packing fault in Batch B. Without batch records, you would have to call every buyer of that product. With the recall report, Taajir lists the customers who received Batch B, so you call only those customers. The 70 cartons that went to the distributor in the example above show on that list.
How it fits with production
Because batches live in the Manufacturing add-on, they connect naturally to production. Output from a production run can carry a batch number and expiry date, and that batch is then sold FEFO from stock. The same module gives you recipes with wastage, planned vs actual costing and material requirements. See manufacturing software for the full module.
For pharmacies and food traders
Traders who buy and sell dated goods without making anything, such as pharmacies and food distributors, also ask about expiry tracking. In Taajir this still comes through the Manufacturing add-on, since that is where batches and expiry are built. Before paying, use the 7-day free trial, which has full access, and run a few of your own items and batches through it to check the screens fit how you buy and sell.
What it costs
The Manufacturing add-on is Rs 2,000 a month, or Rs 11,000 a year with a yearly plan, on top of either plan. A factory with one godown on Standard yearly pays Rs 36,000 + Rs 11,000 = Rs 47,000 for the year. A factory with a production godown and a separate city warehouse needs Business: Rs 50,000 + Rs 11,000 = Rs 61,000 a year. That is less than a quarter of the Rs 432,000 of stock in the expiry example above.
Questions people ask
Is batch and expiry tracking in the base Taajir plan?
No. It is part of the Manufacturing add-on, Rs 2,000 a month or Rs 11,000 a year with a yearly plan. The add-on works on both Standard and Business.
What is FEFO?
First expiry, first out. When you sell, the batch that expires first is used first, so old stock does not expire at the back of the godown.
Can I find which customers received a batch?
Yes. Batch traceability and the recall report show the customers who received a batch.
I run a pharmacy and do not manufacture. Can I use it?
Batch and expiry tracking comes through the Manufacturing add-on. Try it on the 7-day free trial with your own items first to check it suits a buy-and-sell workflow.
Does it also handle production?
Yes. The same add-on includes recipes with wastage, production orders, planned vs actual costing and material requirements.

Manufacturing software
The Manufacturing add-on turns Taajir into a production system for small factories. Raw material goes in, finished stock comes out, and you see what every production run really cost.
Inventory management software
Every sale and every purchase you enter in Taajir updates your stock on the spot. You can check what is in hand from the counter or your phone, without sending someone to the godown to count.
Warehouse management software
When your stock sits in a shop, a godown behind the market and maybe a second godown on the bypass, a single stock figure is not enough. Taajir keeps stock for each location and shows the total across all of them.
Distribution management software
A distributor's business lives in three places: the godown, the delivery van and the retailer's khata. Taajir ties them together so you know what went out, what came back as cash and what is still owed by each shop.
