Software for mobile phone and electronics shops in Pakistan
A mobile or electronics shop holds a lot of money in a small glass counter. Taajir keeps a count of every phone and accessory, shows the profit on each sale and records who changed what.
What makes this trade hard to run.
High-value stock in a small space
Ten phones in a drawer can be worth more than the shop's rent for a year. One missing unit is a serious loss, and it may not be noticed for days.
Prices that move with the dollar
Rates from the dealer change week to week. Selling at last month's price on a phone you bought at this month's rate means selling at a loss.
Phones and accessories in one shop
Covers, chargers, handsfree and screen protectors sell in high volume at small prices. Their stock is harder to track than the phones.
Dealer-to-dealer credit
Shops in the same market lend and borrow stock from each other and settle later. Those accounts live in WhatsApp chats and memory.
Built around the way you work.
Stock count for every model
Each model and variant is its own item, so you know how many of each are in the shop and in the store room.
Purchase rate on every purchase
Record what you paid the dealer each time. Reports then show the real profit on each sale, even when rates change.
Audit log
Every edit and deletion is recorded with the user and time, so a changed price or a removed invoice can be traced.
IMEI on every phone
With the Lots & Serials add-on, each phone carries its IMEI as a serial number, captured on the sale invoice, so you can see which customer got which handset.
Ledgers for dealers and market shops
Suppliers and the shops you trade with each have a ledger, so stock lent and borrowed is settled from records.
Invoice on the buyer's WhatsApp
Send the customer the invoice on WhatsApp as proof of purchase, which also helps when they come back with a warranty question.
From opening to closing.
Opening count
Staff open the counter. The owner checks the stock report for phone models against the display.
Dealer rates
New rates come in from the dealer. Purchases made today are entered at today's rate.
Sales
Phones and accessories are billed. The customer gets the invoice on WhatsApp.
Market settlement
A neighbouring shop returns or pays for stock borrowed last week. Their ledger is updated.
Closing
Cash, sales and profit for the day are checked, and any edits to invoices show in the audit log.
How mobile and electronics shops make money
Hall Road in Lahore, Saddar in Rawalpindi, the mobile markets of Karachi: shops there sell phones at thin margins and make their steady profit on accessories, repairs and small electronics. A phone bought from the dealer at Rs 58,500 might sell for Rs 61,000, a profit of Rs 2,500. A charger bought at Rs 650 sells for Rs 1,100, a profit of Rs 450. Sell six chargers and you have earned Rs 2,700, more than on the phone.
That means the shop needs to watch two very different kinds of stock: a few expensive units where one loss hurts badly, and hundreds of cheap items where small losses add up quietly.
A worked example: one week's purchase rates
Rates move. Say you bought five units of a phone model at two different rates, and sold four of them:
| Entry | Qty | Rate (Rs) | Amount (Rs) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Purchase, Monday | 3 | 58,500 | 1,75,500 |
| Purchase, Friday | 2 | 60,000 | 1,20,000 |
| Total bought | 5 | 2,95,500 | |
| Sold during the week | 4 | 61,000 | 2,44,000 |
The average cost is Rs 2,95,500 divided by 5, which is Rs 59,100 per unit. Four sold at Rs 61,000 brings a profit of Rs 1,900 each, or Rs 7,600 in total. If you had assumed the old rate of Rs 58,500, you would think you made Rs 10,000. That Rs 2,400 gap is how shops believe they are profitable while their cash keeps shrinking. Our guide to FIFO vs average cost explains the two methods, and the glossary covers weighted average cost.
Protecting expensive stock
In Taajir every model and variant is an item with its own stock count. Every sale reduces it, so the stock report should match what is in the drawer. If it does not, you know which model is short. User permissions decide who can edit or delete invoices, and the audit log records every change with the user's name. That combination discourages the quiet kind of loss that happens when an invoice is deleted after the customer leaves.
For phones, the Lots & Serials add-on records the IMEI of each unit as a serial number. The serial is captured at sale, so when a customer comes back with a warranty claim, or someone asks whether a handset came from your shop, you search the IMEI and see the invoice and the customer. The same add-on handles lot-wise trading: buy a lot of 50 used phones from one seller, sell it down, and see the profit on that lot alone. It costs Rs 2,000 a month, or Rs 11,000 a year with a yearly plan, and works on either plan.
Credit between market shops
In a mobile market, shops borrow units from each other when a customer wants a model they do not have, and settle later. In Taajir the shops you deal with are parties with ledgers, just like your suppliers, so a phone sent to the shop next door is a dated entry and not a favour you have to remember.
Price and setup
Taajir Standard is Rs 4,000 a month (Rs 36,000 a year) for one shop. Business is Rs 5,000 a month (Rs 50,000 a year) with multiple locations such as a second outlet or a store room. Add Lots & Serials for IMEIs, and a shop on Standard yearly pays Rs 36,000 + Rs 11,000 = Rs 47,000 for the year. Setup and training are done remotely by the AiroxLab team.
